Paddle floats are used in open water paddling when the paddler is out of the boat and needs an assist to get back into the boat. The paddle float envelopes the paddle blade, is inflated and when the one non-enveloped paddle blade is fixed to the boat and the other blade is extended perpendicular to the boat, the paddler pushes in a downward direction to push him, or herself up into the cockpit of the boat. Typically used in sea kayak self rescue situations.
