Classic canvas over wood canoe in excellent condition. This beautiful craft is over 5 meters (16 feet) in length and is a little more than 1 m. (3 feet) wide at midlength. It weighs just over 70 lbs. and carries 2 -3 adults easily. It is capable of transporting a full load while maintaining full stability.

This canoe was handmade 44 years ago by an Algonquin First Nation mastercraftsman with over 30 years experience. I have owned it for 35 years and it has had only two owners over its lifetime. The original owners were personal friends who had it built for each other as a wedding gift. It has always been carefully looked after and has never been damaged, dented or dropped. It has always been stored in warm, dry conditions and unlike many canvas over wood canoes has never required restoration. The exterior has been recoated with high quality Interlux marine enamel – 15 coats and the beautiful wood interior has been refinished with 5 coats of a top grade marine varnish. The seats are made from woven mesh rawhide strips. Everything about this craft is authentic, original and exquisite.
It is easier to paddle than heavier metal or fibreglass canoes and glides silently in the water. This is a collector’s piece and could be used for paddling by an avid canoeist for many more years or placed on display. I would love to have it go to a new home where it will continue to be valued and treasured.
New handmade canvas over wood canoes are still being made in the northeastern US and sell for over $12,000 Cad.
